Summary of the results of different sewage sludge research projects in Finland. Ministry of the Environment. 2018. Report in Finnish.

Sewage sludge can be a source of recycled nutrients for agriculture. Tyrsky reviewed complete and ongoing research projects and drafted a summary report of the results. We identified research gaps and formulated recommendations for policy instruments and future studies, including new wastewater treatment methods that could keep phosphorus in soluble form to be more accessible to plants and how to prevent the introduction of organic pollutants into waste water. The Ministry of the Environment will use the report in deciding how to allocate funding in the nutrient recycling program.
