Exploring development opportunities ino bio-waste sorting

We conducted an expert survey aimed at mapping the current state of bio-waste sorting in Aalto University properties and producing development proposals for enhancing bio-waste management for Aalto University actors.

We mapped the current state of bio-waste sorting in Aalto University’s restaurants, student premises, and student housing. Additionally, we gathered the views of restaurant customers, students, restaurant staff, and waste management experts operating in the properties regarding the factors inhibiting and enabling bio-waste sorting. We interviewed customers of restaurants located in Aalto University properties during lunchtime on-site and observed the sorting facilities and instructions in the spaces. Furthermore, we sent a questionnaire to staff and interviewed experts.

Based on the identified motivational factors and barriers to sorting, as well as the development suggestions from different actors, we prepared development proposals for enhancing bio-waste management for Aalto University actors.
